AlpTransit Lot 761 Camorino Junction – Structural Steelwork for the Underpass of the New Cantonal Road
Execution period: 2009-2011
ReferenceCommissioned by our client Manci & Marti SA, we fabricated and installed the supporting structural steelwork for the viaduct over the cantonal road on the Giubiasco–Locarno axis, at the southern side of the Camorino motorway junction. The supporting steel core consists of 10 central V-piers and two half-V end piers along a section of approximately 76 linear metres, separating the carriageway (south–north and north–south directions).
The 22 girders with double variable geometry, totalling 45 tonnes of flame-cut plates, were fabricated entirely in our Bioggio workshop. They were first assembled on purpose-made jigs and then welded. After transport to the site, the girders were erected and welded to one another and to the bases (previously fabricated and cast in concrete) to form the aforementioned V-piers. Finally, the construction company placed the covering reinforcement, then formed and poured the piers, with the final result that can be seen today when passing under the viaduct.
