Description of the work
The project involves the creation of a penthouse added on top of the existing concrete building, with a one-storey steel structure measuring approximately 20 m in length, 6 m in width and 3.5 m in overall height. The project also includes raising the structural steel lift tower, which will lead directly from the ground floor to the penthouse, and an external staircase for independent pedestrian access. A stainless steel staircase is planned to access the terrace.
Role of JODA Metalcostruzioni
Responsible for the structural steelwork and metalwork (stairs).

Technical features and descriptions
Structural steel frame of approximately 17 tonnes, made almost entirely of custom-made sections (in order to create the shape designed by the architect).
In its lower part, the structure consists of variable-depth hollow sections made from U-shaped bent plates of different sizes joined by welding.
In the upper part, variable-section IPE profiles were built, fabricated from flat steel sections cut with a pantograph.
Both the lower and the upper structure are encircled by rolled UPE 160 sections so as to create the shape of a figure eight.
Approximately 95 m2 of Super Holorib SHR composite steel decking was used, cut to variable radii along the perimeter of the upper building, with an L-shaped edge profile to form the floor (supplementary concrete pour by the construction company):
To access the raised penthouse, a steel staircase was built with laser-cut 15 mm thick stringers and 20 mm thick stiffeners spot-welded to them.
External cladding with 5 mm thick powder-coated aluminium sheets, and steps with a substructure of hollow sections and treads in satin-finish stainless steel sheet.
To access the terrace, a staircase made entirely of A4 stainless steel (group II) was built, with a load-bearing structure of 80x40x3 hollow sections and 6 mm thick plates forming the support brackets for the stone steps (supplied and installed by others).
