Consortium MPC Lot 781 and 782 – Alptranist Camorino Junction – Railings and Glazed Noise Barriers on the Viaducts
Execution period: 2014-2015
ReferenceOn behalf of our client Consortium MPC (Matteo Muttoni Costruzioni SA, Pizzarotti Suisse SA, CSC impresa costruzioni SA), at the Ceneri Base Tunnel construction site in Camorino we fabricated and installed the fall-protection railings on both walkways of the ATG Lot 782 viaduct (low viaduct), as well as the railings and glazed noise barriers on the Lot 781 viaduct (high viaduct).
The railings consist of posts with a variable T-section inclined towards the inside of the viaduct, through which the top and intermediate rails in 42.4 mm diameter round tube pass. The open space between the posts and the bottom rails was infilled with stone-guard gratings (to prevent any object from falling onto the area below). The surface treatment applied is hot-dip galvanising.
On the high viaduct of Lot 781, alongside the residential areas of Camorino and S.Antonino, the fall-protection system was extended into a glazed noise barrier in order to limit the noise pollution caused by passing trains. The posts follow the same geometry as the railings, the difference being that the open space between the posts was infilled over the full height with screen-printed glass (to protect birds).
On lot 781, approximately 1,100 lm of glazed noise barriers (with approximately 1,500 square metres of glass panels) and approximately 1,100 linear metres of railings were installed. On lot 782, approximately 920 linear metres of railings were installed.
